I’ve already discussed the importance of washing your face twice a day, but didn’t tell you what exactly to use. There are a variety of topical face cleansers out on the market right now, but let me tell you which one I use, that I’ve had success with.

Neutrogena Face Wash is one of the most popular acne washes right now. The front of the bottle states that it’s “#1 Dermatologist recommended.” Well, this is probably true, because my dermatologist recommended to me the last time I had an appointment. I had been using the ProActiv system before to basically treat all of my acne problems, but I wasn’t getting the solutions I had hoped for.

My dermatologist recommended I switch to two different topical solutions – one in the morning (Finacea) and one at night (Differin) – and wash my face with the Neutrogena face wash before each application.

The face wash is really easy to use. Just throw some water on your face, pump some of the solution into your hand, and lather your face up as you would your hair with shampoo. I usually will lather for about a minute or so, using hot water to open up my pores. Then, I use cold water to rinse my face off, which closes my pores and keeps my skin clean.

You can even keep the wash in the shower, which makes it really easy to apply.

So far, my face has felt fresh and I’ve only had one (minor) pimple pop up on the bottom-side of my face. It seems like the combo of Neutrogena Face Wash, Finacea, and Differin is working. I’ll update this post in about two-three weeks to let you know how much progress I’ve made.

Rating: 4.5/5

If you find that you’re stressing out over your acne problems, the best advice is to stop. Stressing about acne (or anything for that matter) is only going to cause more acne breakouts. Stressing out can contribute to more acne in a variety of ways – you may stop exercising, start touching your face in a nervous fashion, or fail to keep up with proper personal hygiene. Diet may also play a role in determining the severity of acne breakouts.

When you become stressed out, your body starts producing hormones that increase the amount of oil on your skin. This oil is called Sebum. Pimples are caused when a combination of sebum and dead skin cells get blocked at the skin’s surface (by makeup, dirt, etc).

If you are stressing out over something, remember that your skin pays a major price. Take a few hours to collect your thoughts, relax, and give your skin a break.

If you exercise for half an hour, about four times a week, you’ll start seeing tighter, better looking skin and less acne. Working out helps balance your hormone levels, which reduces the amount of acne that is produced on your face.

Stress is another big cause of acne. Stress reducing workouts (such as pilates), can help prevent acne breakouts. Pairing consistent exercise and stress reducing workouts will help you achieve the great skin you dream of. Remember to wash your face after workouts.

This tip is an obvious one. If you want to get rid of acne, you need to make sure your face is clean. As you read this, there are a copious amount of germs residing on your face, ready to dig deep into your pores and become acne. To prevent this, wash your face at least twice a day.

Use warm water, a mild soap, and a warm washcloth to bathe your face and get rid of the dust and germs that sit on your face. Do this when you wake up, and in the evening time. If you keep this regimen consistent, you should see great results and your skin will be healthier too.

There are creams and acne washes that work great as well. I will get into those systems later.

The best way to prevent acne breakouts is to follow this simple rule: stop touching your face. In front of the computer is a very common spot for most people to rest their face on their hand. Were you just doing it? Most people probably are.

Try to pay attention to each time you raise your hand to touch your face. Every time you go to do it, stop for a second and think about all of the germs on your hand that you are now transferring to your face. We are constantly moving our hands around, and they are constantly collecting germs.

I’ll run you through a quick scenario (it is a disgusting one!):

Say you go into a public restroom to urinate. Afterwards, you wash your hands to maintain your personal hygiene. However, not everyone thinks that way. Just before you go into the bathroom, a big burly guy walks out who did not wash his hands. And he just wiped himself. You go to grab the door handle with your hand and exit the restroom. Germs that came from that burly man’s buttocks and feces are now on your hand. You feel something itchy on your cheek, and you go to scratch it. With your hand.

You see where I am going with that scenario? Although we try to wash our hands as best as we can, we still cannot prevent germs from getting on our hands. So stop touching your face.
